Bella Italia Caffe Bar Ristorante St. Andrews

Bella Italia – Caffe, Bar, Ristorante
39 Bell Street
St. Andrews, Fife
KY16 9UR Scotland

Bella Italia was an Italian restaurant located along Bell Street in St. Andrews in Fife, Scotland. For a change, we tried this Italian restaurant in St. Andrews.

I especially wrote St. Andrews again as there were a lot of Bella Italia restaurants in the United Kingdom.

It seemed like Bella Italia was popular because of its pizza but we did not order any pizza.

We ordered calamari for starters and Controfiletto ai Ferri popularly known as sirloin steak with fries and rocket (rucola) for the main course. After which, I ordered tiramisu for dessert. We did not order any wine at all.

It was not a fine dining but the food were fine especially the tiramisu. The price was quite very reasonable too.

Peppercorns Grill Restaurant St Andrews

Peppercorns Grill
177 South Street
St Andrews, Fife
KY16 9EE Scotland

We went for dinner at Peppercorns Grill on the second day of our stay in St. Andrews in the Kingdom of Fife in Scotland.

Peppercorns Grill was not that big but there were really a lot of people when we went to this restaurant.

It seemed like Peppercorns Grill was a popular restaurant even among the local residents.

We ordered Calamare(s) for starters and duck breast for main course. With that, we ordered a Spanish red wine, a Marques de Caceres 2004 Rioja red wine.

The duck breast was really tender and the skin was also soft enough. I did not expect it to be that tender.

After which, I ordered vanilla and strawberry for dessert.

I was surprised when I saw the dessert because from the way it looked like, it seemed like it was a chocolate dessert.

Well, well, the dessert was really good. And yes, that was indeed a vanilla and strawberry dessert.

Sands Grill Restaurant Old Course Hotel St. Andrews

Sands Grill Restaurant
Old Course Hotel
St. Andrews, Fife
KY16 9SP Scotland

When we arrived in St. Andrews in the Kingdom of Fife, we just checked-in at the New Hall of the University of St. Andrews, rested for a while, and then went around the area afterwards.

Then, we went for dinner at the Sands Grill Restaurant at the Old Course Hotel, a Golf Resort and Spa in St. Andrews overlooking the 17th hole of the St. Andrews Links Old Course.

I thought that the Old Course Hotel was part of the St. Andrews Links Trust. We were told later on that the hotel was not at all part of St. Andrews Links Trust.

We ordered trio of Scottish salmon, cold smoked, hot smoked and gravadlax for starters. I ordered slow braised blade of beef with horseradish mash and roasted spring vegetables and Hub ordered New York cut strip loin for the main course.

With that, we ordered a South African red wine, a Rhebokskloof Pinotage 2006. Later on, I ordered Sands classic tiramisu with almond and hazelnut biscotti for dessert.

The beef was so tender! One of the best that I ever ate. The knife was almost not needed for cutting the meat, the fork alone would suffice.

Everything was really good, the starters, the main course, the wine and the dessert!

That was definitely a great dinner!

The Wee Windaes Scottish Restaurant, Edinburgh, Scotland

The Wee Windaes
Scottish Restaurant Bistro
144 High Street, Edinburgh
EH1 1 Scotland

We went for dinner at The Wee Windaes Scottish Restaurant along the High Street on the famous Royal Mile on our second day in Edinburgh after again roaming around the city.

There were a lot of restaurants on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh City and we did not know where to eat. So we just went inside The Wee Windaes and tried their food.

We ordered smoked salmon and gravadlax for starters and sirloin steak for the main course. With that, we ordered an Australian red wine, a Peter Lehmann red wine, to be exact a Weighbridge Shiraz 2006. We did not order any desserts.

The smoked salmon and gravadlax was really good.

During our Scotland trip, we were almost always ordering salmon for starters.

Wildfire Scottish Steak and Seafood Bistro, Edinburgh, Scotland

Wildfire
Scottish Steak and Seafood Bistro
192 Rose Street, Edinburgh
EH2 4AZ Scotland

We went for dinner at Wildfire Scottish Steak and Seafood Bistro on our first day in Edinburgh after roaming around the city. We have seen a lot of restaurants but somehow our feet led us to go to Wildfire restaurant which was located along Rose Street in New Town in Edinburgh City.

I was so excited to be eating lamb shank as I really missed that in Ireland. I was not able to eat any lamb shank in Ireland after I tasted what Hub ordered when we ate at the Temple Bar.

The lamb shank was so tender and really good that I promised to myself that once I see any lamb shank on the menu in Scotland, I will definitely order a lamb shank. Yes, Wildfire had a lamb shank on their menu.

We ordered toasted bread with melted cheese for starters and lamb shank for the main course. With that, we ordered a McGuigan red wine from Australia. I cannot remember though if it was a Shiraz or Merlot or Cabernet Merlot. We did not order any desserts anymore.

The lamb shank was definitely great!

La Brasserie Restaurant Sea France Ferry

When we went to Scotland in Summer 2008 for a golf vacation, we took Sea France Ferry from the port of Calais in France going to the port of Dover in England.

When we went back home from our Scotland vacation via England and France, we again took Sea France Ferry from Dover to France.

There were a few restaurants inside the boat but we liked eating at La Brasserie better. The price was also quite reasonable.

We ate at La Brasserie on both instances when we rode the boat from Calais to Dover and from Dover to Calais.

From Calais to Dover, we had a very late lunch. We had Parma Ham and Melon for starters, then Chef’s Steak selection from Saint Omer region with three pepper sauce and french fries as the main course. The menu was actually called “Une table sur la mer”. We did not order any dessert.

From Dover to Calais, we had dinner at La Brasserie. We had Smoked Salmon “Emile FOURNIER” with a creamy chive dressing and blinis for starters, Chef’s Steak selection from Saint Omer region with three pepper sauce and french fries as the main course, and warm Tarte Tatin with vanilla ice cream for dessert.

La Brasserie only served food once the boat has left the port.

Travel time from Calais to Dover and vice-versa with Sea France Ferry was at least 1 and 1/2 hours. So, we really had time to enjoy eating as there was nothing to do inside the boat anyway.

Pizza al Gorgonzola, Pizzeria SeeHotel Gotthard Weggis

Pizzeria
SeeHotel Gotthard
Gotthardstrasse 11

Having frequented the Pizzeria at SeeHotel Gotthard Weggis, I definitely have eaten different varieties of its pizza several times already.

In this case, I ordered Pizza al Gorgonzola with tomatoes, spices, mozzarella cheese, gorgonzola cheese and artichokes.

With that, we ordered Montepulciano D’Abruzzo 2008 which was an Italian red wine.

For dessert, I ordered Panna Cotta, one of my favorite desserts.

Pizzeria SeeHotel Gotthard Weggis

Pizzeria
SeeHotel Gotthard
Gotthardstrasse 11

The Pizzeria was just one of the restaurants of SeeHotel Gotthard just like the Poulet-Beizli.

The Pizzeria of SeeHotel Gotthard Weggis was one of the restaurants in the village being frequented by the locals.

The Pizzeria has been using the traditional oven made of stone for making its pizza.

But eating at the Pizzeria was not limited to pizza. I even ordered shrimps instead of pizza.

There were more on the menu list of the Pizzeria like fish, meat and chicken among others.

Take-away or take-out was also available.

Not to forget, people were always friendly and accommodating.

Switzerland

SeeHotel Gotthard Weggis has several restaurants, namely, the Pizzeria, the Stuebli, the Poulet-Beizli, and the Lakeside Terrace.

Take-away or take-out food was also available.

We frequented this restaurant especially the Pizzeria but once in a while we also went to the Stuebli or Poulet-Beizli.

Gotthard was known for its roasted chicken that was why the name Poulet-Beizli. Poulet means chicken in English language.

But I did not only eat chicken or pizza at SeeHotel Gotthard whether we were at the Pizzeria or Poulet-Beizli.

I also liked ordering fish like grilled fish, fish fried in butter, and fish steamed in white wine with cream, shrimps and mussels.

Fish varied depending on the season. Most often, I have had salmon or perch-pike or perch or trout.

People at SeeHotel Gotthard were always friendly to us especially the owners.

The owners have always greeted us every time we ate there whether at the Pizzeria or at the Stuebli or at the Poulet-Beizli.

The Grape Restaurant Weggis

The Grape Restaurant
Seestrasse 60
6353 Weggis

The Grape’s line was “Californian wine and dine”. So, they had wines at the restaurant from Napa Valley.

They served food like steaks, burgers, pizzas, and other specialties from around the world.

The Grape was just one of the restaurants of Park Hotel Weggis but the restaurant itself was not located at the hotel building.

We have eaten at the Grape restaurant several times already. I have tried a lot of what they had at the menu.

The food was fine and the people were friendly. It was a nice and comfortable restaurant.
