We went for a gourmet menu dinner in Braui restaurant last month. Braui restaurant is located in Brauiplatz near the “Kulturzentrum Braui” in Hochdorf.

I really had no expectations about the restaurant because I did not ask about it. I realized later that it was actually awarded with 15 Gault Millau points in 2009.

The staff welcomed us graciously as they know some of our friends. Then they brought us to our table.

For a start, we were served with squid carpaccio. That was really great.

After the starter, we were invited at the kitchen. I was really surprised. It was my first time to be invited in the kitchen considering that I have had dinner in a fine restaurant too even before Braui restaurant.

We of course met the man in charge, Chef Werner Tobler, a top cuisinier and already had written a book. He told us what he prepared, some fish and lamb for the main course, and we agreed. It sounded good but two of our friends preferred beef than lamb.

When we went to the kitchen, I especially brought my camera and they did not object when I took some photos. The kitchen was very clean. I was quite impressed.

After that, we were served with soup, then another appetizer, a liver tiramisu, then another soup. For the main course, we were served with fish and lamb. After that, we had desserts, at first some melted cheese, then sorbet, and lastly, brownies with so many extras.

I really thought that it was the last. But no, I was again surprised when a platter was brought with chocolate mousse, cookies, and some sort of caramel cream a la panna cotta. I was like overwhelmed.

And all the time, during the dinner, we drank different wines with the soups, starters, main courses and desserts that we had. We had white wines and red wines especially from Mattmann.

And the staff that served us were really very nice and accommodating.

The gourmet menu dinner was awesome. We started at past 8:00 p.m. and we finished at just around 1:00 a.m. We definitely had a great time.
